LIBERTY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say they found at least 20 dead animals at a Pickens County home as they checked on a pig running loose in a nearby yard.

Deputies told local media outlets they charged 33-year-old Ricky Turner with ill treatment of animals and failure to bury a dead animal after visiting his Liberty home Friday.

Arrest warrants say deputies found at least six rabbits, two pigs and a goat dead in cages. About 10 to 15 chickens were also found dead either scattered in the yard or in cages. They also found a living pig with bones showing and other very ill animals along with healthy dogs.

Court documents say Turner told officers he buys the animals at auction and some aren't in good health when he gets them.
