HELSINKI (AP) — Denmark's crown prince has apologized for ignoring police warnings and crossing the country's longest suspension bridge during a storm.
Danish police inspector Sten Noerskov says Crown Prince Frederik's car crossed the 1.6-kilometer (mile-long) Great Belt suspension bridge on Sunday without permission.
The bridge was closed at the time because of strong winds and other cars were lined up at a toll barrier waiting for it to reopen.
Noerskov said Monday that police allowed the crown prince's car through the barrier for security reasons but didn't give him permission to cross the bridge because "it was too dangerous." He did so anyway.
Danish broadcaster DR said the Royal House apologized for the incident, saying the crown prince "regrets it happened."
The Royal House did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
