PARIS (AP) — French police are still hunting for three heavily armed men with possible links to al-Qaida who are wanted for killing 12 people Wednesday at the Paris office of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. The weekly paper has caricatured the Prophet Muhammad along with other religious leaders and politicians. France has raised its terror alert system to the maximum.

MIAMI (AP) — A military judge is ordering officials at the Guantanamo Bay prison to stop using female guards to move the five defendants in the 9/11 terrorism case. The defendants have refused to meet with lawyers because any physical contact with unrelated women violates their Muslim beliefs. Lawyers say that was interfering with the defendants' right to counsel.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — The FBI says an Army veteran who fatally shot a psychologist at a West Texas veterans' hospital before killing himself was a former clerk at the clinic and had threatened the doctor in 2013. The FBI says the gunman in Tuesday's shooting of 63-year-old Dr. Timothy Fjordbak in El Paso was Jerry Serrato, a 48-year-old who was medically discharged from the Army in 2009.

WAYNE, Mich. (AP) — President Barack Obama says "We are entering into the new year with new confidence that America is coming back," Declaring an economic resurgence, Obama made the comments today at an auto plant in Michigan where he opened a three-state swing aimed at claiming credit for recent growth. The president's next stop is Phoenix.

KITCHENER, Ontario (AP) — "Shame on you." Those were the words some Canadian protesters shouted at fans arriving for Bill Cosby's first show on stage since November. Others shouted "you support rape" outside the venue in Kitchener, Ontario, today. It's the first of three Cosby performances planned in the province. More than 15 women have made sexual assault allegations against Cosby.
