SURABAYA, Indonesia (AP) — The weather has improved Monday and divers will try again to find large objects on the ocean floor believed to be the fuselage of the AirAsia flight that crashed more than one week ago, killing all 162 on board. At least five ships have equipment that can detect the plane's black boxes. Indonesia's National Search and Rescue director of operations says five large objects — one believed to be the fuselage — have been detected.
UNDATED (AP) — Fans and players at games around the country have stopped to observe moments of silence for longtime "SportsCenter" anchor and ESPN personality Stuart Scott, who died Sunday after a battle with cancer. He was 49. ESPN President John Skipper says in a statement that Scott was "a true friend and a uniquely inspirational figure."
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in California are trying to determine whether the body of an infant is a child whose mother, father and uncle were found shot and wounded Saturday at a home in San Diego County. Meanwhile, authorities searching for 3-week-old Eliza Delacruz are asking anyone who knows of someone bringing home an infant under suspicious circumstances to call the police or take the child to a police station. Police are looking for a male suspect in the shooting.
NEW YORK (AP) — Jury selection is scheduled to start Monday in the trial of a man accused in the disappearance 35 years ago of 6-year-old Etan Patz (AY'-tahn payts), the New York City boy who was one of the first missing children to appear on a milk carton. Pedro Hernandez didn't become a suspect until police got a tip in 2012. His attorneys say Hernandez confessed to the crime falsely, because of mental illness.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities say officers shot and killed a man near a San Francisco police station who held what appeared to be a handgun. Police opened fire Sunday evening after the man pulled what was later determined to be a type of air gun. The 32-year-old man was hit three times and died of his wounds.
