BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The city of Boise has sent a cease-and-desist order to Uber, saying it has concerns about safety.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/13XE0fa ) that Uber, an online transportation company, responded to the order by saying the service is safe and reliable.
The city claims Uber stated charging passengers this week without an operating agreement in place. The Press-Tribune says Uber has been in negotiations with the city and had agreed to avoid charging until talks were complete. The city says Uber violated its own goodfaith commitment to not charge for services.
Boise officials want to ensure that Uber meets city standards for safety, including background checks and insurance.
Uber says its insurance covers drivers, riders and thirdparty liability up to $1 million each trip, and all Uber partners have to pass a rigorous background check and vehicle inspection before being able to drive.
