OREM, Utah (AP) — Investigators say a fire this morning at an unfinished Orem condominium complex appears to have been intentionally set. Orem Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Peterson says the fire was reported about 2:30 a.m. and extinguished several hours later. No injuries were reported. Peterson says the damage is estimated at $1 million.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A spokesman for Gov. Gary Herbert says the governor disagrees with a decision by the state's Health Reform Task force to support two less-expensive alternatives to Herbert's Medicaid expansion plan. Marty Carpenter says their alternatives will cost more money per person, help fewer people and leave Utah taxpayer money in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Health officials say prepackaged caramel apples are linked to five deaths and more than two dozen illnesses in 10 states, including Utah. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says investigators are trying to determine the specific brands that were involved. But consumers are being warned not to eat prepackaged caramel apples until more is known.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Weber County and the city of Ogden will pay a combined $230,000 to continue a bus service this winter to ferry skiers to northern Utah resorts. The service beings Sunday and will run through April 5. The Standard-Examiner reports about 27,000 skiers rode the bus last winter.
