DOVER, Del. (AP) — Delaware's state board of education has voted to close a failing all-girls charter school in New Castle.

School board members voted Thursday to revoke the charter of Reach Academy, a predominantly black school with a history of financial and academic struggles. The vote followed public hearings and recommendations for revocation by a state review panel and Education Secretary Mark Murphy.

Officials had wanted to close Reach last spring after the school year ended, but school officials filed a federal lawsuit claiming they were being treated unfairly. Attorneys dismissed the lawsuit in May after a judge ordered state officials to renew Reach's charter for this year.

In granting the injunction, the judge dismissed the school's claims but allowed individual students to pursue gender-based discrimination claims.
