SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old girl was accidently shot after a younger sibling pulled a loaded handgun from their father's pants pocket.
Search warrants obtained Wednesday say adults were examining guns at a Kaysville home shortly before the 10-year-old sibling got the weapon.
The older sibling died of her wounds at home on Nov. 23.
Kaysville Police Lt. Kenton Pies says officers are still investigating and plan to forward their findings to the county attorney, but police believe it was an accident.
He declined to elaborate on what the adults were doing with the guns before the girl's death.
The victim was a student at Centennial Junior High who gave a talk in church hours before her death expressing gratitude for her family.
