SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former TV pitchman in Utah accused of chasing and kicking a barn owl in flight on his motorized paraglider is expected to appear in federal court today. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Dell "Super Dell" Schanze knowingly used an aircraft to harass wildlife and pursued a migratory bird near Utah Lake in 2011.

FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A Layton woman has pleaded not guilty to charges she exposed her baby daughter to methadone, leading to the child's death. The Standard-Examiner reports Courtney Howell is charged with one count of exposing a child to a controlled substance. Police say Howell had a prescription for methadone and traces of it were found in baby bottles.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah leaders have an extra $638 million to spend in the upcoming year, and today, Gov. Gary Herbert will take the first crack at suggesting how to spend it. He's releasing his budget priorities, which lawmakers will consider when they meet in January for their annual session. The extra money is mostly due to higher than expected tax collections and much of it is required by law to be spent on education.

PROVO, UTAH (AP) — Delon Wright had 16 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 13 Utah beat BYU 65-61 last night. Wright scored nine points in the second half and sparked a 10-0 run that helped the Utes overcome a 31-30 halftime deficit. Tyler Haws led BYU with 23 points.
