WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is bracing for an adverse reaction in many quarters around the world to the contents of a report divulging for the first time the nature of torture practices used by U.S. officials in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack. But the chief White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, says President Barack Obama supports making public a summary of a Senate committee's findings. American embassies, military units and other U.S. interests have been told to be on alert for possible attack following the release, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Cleveland Cavalier stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, along with multiple players on the Brooklyn Nets, wore "I Can't Breathe" shirts as they warmed up before tonight's NBA game in Brooklyn. Kevin Garnett and Deron Williams were among four Nets wearing the shirts before the game in support of the family of Eric Garner, who died July 17 after a police officer placed him in a chokehold when he was being arrested for allegedly selling loose, untaxed cigarettes. The statement from the players came before a game that was to be attended by Britain's Prince William and his wife, Kate, as well as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The University of Virginia has refused to reinstate Greek activities that were suspended after a Rolling Stone article alleged a woman was gang raped at a fraternity house, despite the magazine acknowledging mistakes in its reporting. But officials of the university said today that the story and debate has led it to create a group to explore its policies and campus culture. The university said the article and revelations late last week about Rolling Stone missteps have prompted an intense, ongoing period of introspection.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Six people are dead following a plane crash today Gaithersburg, Maryland, a Washington, D.C., suburb. Three of the victims were aboard the small jet, the others in a house that was hit. Property records and neighbors say two parents and three children, including a newborn and a toddler, lived in the home. Authorities said the husband and a school-aged child were not home at the time.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Northeast is due for rough weather storm as a slow-moving storm approaches, bringing heavy rains and high winds along with a half-foot or more of snow to some inland areas. The National Weather Service says the messy system moving into the region threatens to bring 2 or more inches of rain to southern New England tomorrow. It also says that wet, heavy snow and gusty winds farther inland could take down tree limbs and cut power.
