What time of day is the pollen count the highest? I heard several rumors. Please clear this up for me.

Thanks, Stan J.

The time of day when the pollen is the highest is early on after the dew dries, from about sunrise to late morning. However pollen can also be bothersome at other times of day especially with different weather.

Pollen gets transferred a couple of ways, by insects (which won't bug you unless you're sniffing a bee) and by the wind. On a windy day, those with allergies can really suffer even though the count may be highest in the morning.

After it rains, the pollen count will be lower. You can talk to your doctor about different kinds of treatment for allergies. If you find yourself being super sensitive, there's a few easy things you can do like taking a shower after being outside or before bedtime so you aren't breathing in pollen all night. You can also keep your sheets and your house very clean or even invest in allergy free bedding to help you out. Keeping a healthy diet can also help your body be strong to help against allergens.

The pollen count on KSL is from the Intermountain Asthma and Allergy clinic. Some links to the pollen count and other information can be found on the right side of this page.

Happy breathing!
