CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — The UNC Board of Governors has removed a Winston-Salem State University trustee following allegations he disclosed confidential information about candidates interested in becoming the school's chancellor.
The board meeting Friday in Chapel Hill dismissed Vic Johnson based on a board committee's recommendation. The Winston-Salem Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1AwVUR3 ) the full board's vote to accept the recommendation was unanimous. Committee chairwoman Joan MacNeil says the action came after Johnson refused to resign last month.
Johnson didn't attend Friday's meeting and says he was refused a request for a hearing. He says he did nothing wrong.
MacNeil says the trustee chairwoman accused Johnson of sharing applicant information with people outside the search committee on which he served, violating an agreement.
Elwood Robinson was chosen Winston-Salem State's next chancellor in September.
