LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge berated a Las Vegas woman as a maternal failure and sentenced her to 16 to 40 years in prison in the beating death of her 7-year-old son.
Clark County District Judge David Barker called the abuse that led to second-grader Roderick "RJ" Arrington's death in November 2012 "chilling" as he sentenced 36-year-old Dina Palmer on Wednesday.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1wtOS0H ) the judge said Palmer failed her son in every way.
The case also exposed a flawed child protective services response to school officials' reports about the boy's injuries.
Palmer pleaded guilty in September to two felony child abuse with substantial bodily harm charges.
Her husband, Markiece Palmer, was found guilty of murder and child abuse.
He faces life in prison at a sentencing Jan. 21.
