WAYNE, N.J. (AP) — Five students at New Jersey's William Paterson University face charges stemming from the alleged sexual assault of a female student in a dorm, the school's president said.
University President Kathleen Waldron told students and faculty in a statement that the attack occurred Tuesday on the Wayne campus and the men have been barred from campus.
Waldron did not say when the woman reported the incident, but said she was "attended to by university counselors and police officers" as soon as she did.
The Record (http://bit.ly/1B4Vi8c) reported that the five are all 18 years old, lived in campus residence halls and were being held in the Passaic County Jail on $200,000 bail each. The Passaic County prosecutor's office said the five were scheduled to make an initial court appearance Tuesday morning in Paterson.
A university spokesman told the newspaper that Jahmel Latimer of Hoboken was charged with aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping, while Darius Singleton of Jersey City was charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault, criminal restraint, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Garret Collick of Paterson was charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault, criminal restraint, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sexual contact; Noah Williams of Camden was charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault, criminal restraint, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault; and Tremaine Scott of Vineland was charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault, criminal restraint, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
It was not clear whether any of the men had lawyers.
The university president said her deepest concern was for the woman, and her heart goes out to the student and her family.
