SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is celebrating the holidays by collecting socks and books for children and presenting family and children's activities.
Officials are setting up a bookshelf at the library building. New or slightly used books for children in kindergarten through 8th grades will be accepted there until Dec. 19. They will go to Springfield school libraries.
Beginning Dec. 10 at the museum, visitors may donate new socks by placing them on a lobby Christmas tree. A donation earns $5 off admission or $10 off a membership to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.
Children will have story time with crafts and cookies Dec. 6. Dec. 10 will be Family Day. Dec. 21 will be a birthday party for the president's son, Willie Lincoln.
