CLAWSON, Mich. (AP) — A school board member in an Oakland County community has resigned after joking that students with food allergies should be shot.
Linda Grossman threw up her hands and laughed after making the remark at a public meeting on Nov. 10. Video shows other Clawson board members laughing, too, during a discussion about the rising number of students with food allergies.
Grossman said: "Well, you should just shoot them."
Her resignation was announced Tuesday. The school board released a statement saying the comment was an inappropriate attempt at humor.
Clawson Superintendent Monique Beels says it was "insensitive and hurtful."
