RUMFORD, Maine (AP) — Administrators at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford say eight students have been given 10-day suspensions this month for getting into fights on school grounds.
Principal Matt Gilbert tells the Sun Journal (http://bit.ly/1zUkvyP) the fights were apparently spurred by comments made on social media websites outside of school.
He says the students suspended are boys and girls from all grades.
A 10-day suspension is the maximum for fighting at the school, and he emphasized that all suspended students are still responsible for completing homework.
Gilbert says he has spoken to the senior class in private and stressed that they should lead by example.
Gilbert and Superintendent Craig King say while they are concerned about the fights, there are plenty of positives in the school.
