RENO, Nev. (AP) — Governor Brian Sandoval says he asked Assemblyman Ira Hansen three days ago to withdraw as speaker of the next Legislature and is glad the Sparks Republican has done so for the "greater good of Nevada." Sandoval announced Monday that he met privately with Hansen in Carson City on Friday. He says he asked him at that time to step down as speaker-designate because of offensive comments he'd made in the past about race.
UNDATED (AP) — Dozens of people in Oakland, California protesting the Ferguson grand jury decision were blocking traffic overnight on Interstate 580, a major highway in the Bay Area. The demonstration in Oakland is just one of the rallies taking place in several U.S. cities this morning after a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer who killed a black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court says a judge in Reno, not Las Vegas, should decide if ride-sharing company Uber should be blocked from doing business in the state. The high court released its ruling late Monday after attorneys representing Uber asked the justices to decide where the case should be heard after two judges in different districts each thought the case belonged in their courtrooms.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a 63-year-old man who was crossing a street with his 1-year-old granddaughter has died after being hit by a vehicle. Authorities say the incident happened a little before 11 a.m. Monday on South Rainbow Boulevard near Warm Springs Road.
