Police shoot man during trespass investigation

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting by South Jordan police during a trespassing investigation Saturday.

Police said Monday that officers encountered the man in a field near a South Jordan home about noon.

Police Officer Samuel Winkler says the man was shot by an officer and died at the scene.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office is investigating. The victim's name was not immediately released.
