SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gun-control groups plan to deliver a petition to Gov. Gary Herbert today in opposition to Utah laws that bar universities from keeping guns off their campuses. The petition follows the cancellation last month of a speech by feminist speaker Anita Sarkeesian at Utah State University. Sarkeesian called off her speech after learning the school would allow concealed firearms despite an anonymous threat against her.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors in Salt Lake City want a 17-year-old accused in the 2012 death of his girlfriend to be tried an adult. The Colorado boy appeared in court yesterday with his hands shackled in front of him as a judge set a March 2 hearing date. The body of 15-year-old Anne Kasprzak (KAS-per-zack) was found in the Jordan River. The suspect was 14 at the time. The AP is not naming him because he is a juvenile.

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) — The court-appointed manager of a multimillion-dollar property trust once controlled by Warren Jeffs is due in court today on a charge of patronizing a prostitute. Prosecutors say 68-year-old Bruce Wisan was found in a motel room with a 26-year-old woman last March.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A group of Utah business leaders says immigration reform is needed but they're concerned President Barack Obama's actions on the issue will hamper any permanent solutions from Congress. Overstock.com board chairman Jonathan Johnson and other business leaders held a round-table discussion about immigration yesterday, hours before the president's speech on immigration reform last night. A new Pew Research Center report shows there are an estimated 100,000 immigrants in Utah in the country illegally.
