BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Americans are using less water, though people in the Northwest individually use more than the national average and Idahoans use more than people in any other state. That's the finding of a study by local, state and federal officials tracking everything from public drinking fountains to irrigation. Officials say the U.S. used an average of 355 billion gallons of water per day in 2010. That's 13 percent less than 2005, and the lowest amount since before 1970.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The USDA has approved Boise-based J.R. Simplot's new genetically modified potato. But one of the company's oldest business partners — McDonald's — hasn't. The Idaho Statesman reports that the fast-food giant says it doesn't use genetically modified potatoes and has no plans to change that policy.
