BERESFORD, S.D. (AP) — A 12-year-old girl has used her savings to buy a professional mixer and earn a dinner at the White House as part of a recipe competition.
The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/1sQVlwk ) Beresford Middle School student Sabrina Swee won the South Dakota Healthy Lunchtime Challenge Recipe Contest last summer with her Hawaiian kale wraps recipe. The honor got her a trip to Washington, D.C., a dinner at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. and photos with U.S. Sen. John Thune and first lady Michelle Obama.
The challenge asked that a parent or guardian worked with their child to create a healthy, affordable and tasty recipe. Swee's mom, Holly, is a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist.
Sween says she saved the money for her mixer by doing her sister's chores and getting paid for it.
