RENO, Nev. (AP) — Long-time Reno businessman, philanthropist and war hero Link Piazzo has died.

Craig Piazzo told the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://tinyurl.com/ltr8qsf ) his father died at his own home in Hidden Valley Friday at the age of 95.

Piazzo was the original "Voice of the Wolf Pack," broadcasting University of Nevada football and basketball games beginning in the 1940s. He and his brother, Chet, opened The Sportsman sporting goods store in 1938, which remained in business for more than 60 years.

Piazzo contributed millions of dollars over the years to the University of Nevada, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Reno YMCA, among others.

He flew B-25 bombers for the Army Air Corps during World War II, completing 67 combat missions and earning numerous commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
