GROTON, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say two Navy civilian police officers have been wounded in a confrontation with a knife-wielding man at a Connecticut base. Navy officials say an officer guarding the submarine base in Groton (GRAH'-tuhn) on Thursday night fired shots at the man and two other officers were injured by the ricochet of bullets. The suspect, who was not injured, is in custody.

BEIRUT (AP) — The leader of the Islamic State group is heard in a newly-released recording saying the campaign by a U.S.-led coalition has failed -- and that the United States and its allies will eventually have to deploy ground troops. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi also says his fighters will fight to the last man. The recording was released days after he was reported wounded in an airstrike.

UNDATED (AP) — Court documents reveal the man accused of opening fire on a Pennsylvania State Police barracks admitted killing a trooper because he was dissatisfied with government. The documents say Eric Frein (freen) spoke of wanting to start a revolution in a letter to his parents and called the slaying an "assassination" in a police interview. Frein is facing terrorism charges on top of a first-degree murder charge.

NEW YORK (AP) — Another Ebola patient is coming to the United States for treatment. That's according to a federal government source who says a surgeon working in West Africa's Sierra Leone will be flown to the U.S. on Saturday. The doctor is a citizen of Sierra Leone but also is a permanent U.S. resident. The surgeon will be treated at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

EASLEY, S.C. (AP) — Longtime Major League Baseball manager and star shortstop Alvin Dark has died. He was 92. The Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, South Carolina, said Dark died Thursday at his home. Dark, the 1948 major league Rookie of the Year and a three-time All-Star, played with the New York Giants when they won the 1954 World Series and managed the Oakland Athletics to the 1974 crown.
