ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio University in southeast Ohio has settled a lawsuit filed by the father of a student who died of bacterial meningitis in 2010.
The Athens Messenger (http://bit.ly/1svGkzQ ) reports that the school has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a suit filed by Joseph Robinson, father of 18-year-old Andrea Robinson of the Cleveland suburb of Cleveland Heights. She died in 2010 at a Columbus hospital.
The paper reported Sunday that the lawsuit claimed the university did not warn students there was a strain of meningitis on campus for which there was no vaccine.
University attorneys had argued that the lawsuit pending in the Ohio Court of Claims should be dismissed because Andrea Robinson did not seek direct help from the student health center. Robinson's attorneys disputed that assertion.
