UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — About 400 students in Prince George's County are barred from school this week because they haven't gotten their vaccinations.
District officials say they made every attempt to warn parents of the Friday deadline to prove their children have been vaccinated against measles, mumps, whooping cough and other communicable diseases.
But The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1vCbWVk ) that the parents of about 400 students had not complied by the deadline.
When school resumes Wednesday after two days off, they will not be able to attend.
The school system offered many opportunities for students to get vaccinated, including free immunization clinics on weeknights and weekends. Now, school officials say it's in the hands of parents to get their children vaccinated so they can return to school.
