TORONTO (CP) - Acclaimed Toronto filmmaker Atom Egoyan will be taking his stage production of Samuel Beckett's Eh Joe to London's West End, CBC reports.
Egoyan, who directed the Oscar-nominated film The Sweet Hereafter, was commissioned to direct the Beckett play for Dublin's Gate Theatre and the Barbican Centre in London to mark the playwright's 100th anniversary. The limited engagements received positive reviews from critics.
Written by Beckett for television, Eh Joe aired on the BBC in 1966.
Egoyan has described the play as "one man in a room haunted by the voice of a woman who torments him for thinking that he could ever forget her."
Eh Joe, starring Irish actor Michael Gambon, opens at the Duke of York's Theatre on June 27 and is scheduled to run until July 15.
