DALLAS (AP) — The country's largest nurse's union says a Dallas hospital that treated a Liberian Ebola patient failed to immediately take proper precautions. The union charges the patient, who died, was left in an open area of a Dallas emergency room for hours, and the nurses treating him worked for days without proper protective gear amid constantly changing protocols. The head of the union says it vetted other nurses' complaints before making them. A hospital spokesman says the facility got no complaints.
HONG KONG (AP) — Some public anger in Hong Kong has shifted to police for some of their tactics against pro-democracy protesters. Officers were seen kicking a handcuffed protester in the worst violence since street demonstrations for greater democracy began more than two weeks ago. Dozens of protesters were dragged away as police tore down barricades protesters used as roadblocks around an underpass outside the government's headquarters.
ISLAMABAD (AP) — At least five people are dead and 10 wounded in a bombing in Pakistan near the Afghan border. Officials say the suicide bomber targeted a meeting of anti-Taliban elders today in the tribal region. No one immediately claimed responsibility but suspicion fell on Pakistani Taliban, who have been blamed for previous attacks against elders in the northwestern tribal regions where militants are believed to be hiding.
PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — Double-amputee Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius won't face civil action from the parents of the girlfriend he shot and killed. Through their lawyer, the parents of Reeva Steenkamp also say they will also pay back monthly payments of $550 made to them by Pistorius from March 2013 to September this year. The payments have come to light during Pistorius' sentencing hearing for the crime of culpable homicide, or negligent killing.
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Four trekkers have died on a mountain pass in Northern Nepal after an avalanche buried the area they were in. It took rescuers several hours through deep snow to reach the area. The trekkers were from Poland, Israel and Nepal.
