BOULDER, Utah (AP) — A Colorado motorcyclist died after he crashed into a tree that fell in front of him on a Utah highway.
The Utah Highway Patrol says 69-year-old Edgar Riecke of Durango struck an aspen tree that had just been cut by a group of Boy Scouts with a permit for cutting down trees for firewood.
Riecke, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday afternoon on State Route 12 near Boulder in Garfield County.
Investigators, in a statement, say it appears to be "a case of unfortunate timing," and that nothing criminal occurred.
