TOLEMAIDA MILITARY BASE, Colombia (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says talks are continuing with Turkey about its agreement to support efforts to train and equip the Syrian opposition. The U.S. doesn't know yet whether the training will be done inside Turkey. Meanwhile, Kurds in Turkey are angry that their country is not assisting Syrian Kurds trapped in the border town Kobani by Islamic State fighters. Activists say the strategic town is at risk of falling. A U.N. official says there could be a massacre.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Saturday will mark the second of four straight says of demonstrations in the St. Louis area over law enforcement in the black community. Protesters are expected to be in downtown St. Louis. On Friday, they gathered outside of the office of the prosecutor handling the fatal police shooting of an unarmed, black 18-year-old. Other planned events include a gathering of religious leaders and acts of civil disobedience.
BEIJING (AP) — Officials in northwestern China say at least 19 highway construction workers have been killed by a landslide. The landslide crushed eight temporary dormitory rooms. Landslides are common in China's mountainous regions, where road construction and deforestation have stripped the soil of vegetation, making it difficult for it to stay in place.
HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) — A subtropical storm formed in the Atlantic that is well south of Bermuda is expected to turn toward the north and increase in speed Saturday. A tropical storm watch has been issued for Bermuda. Fay has winds of 40 mph and is expected to produce rainfall of 2 to 4 inches in Bermuda as well as generate large swells along the island's southern coast. But forecasters say it will shift to the northeast on Sunday and remain well out in the Atlantic.
PARLIN, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey high school known as a regional powerhouse is now at the center of hazing and sex crime allegations. Seven students from Sayreville War Memorial were charged with hazing and sex crimes Friday night. Prosecutors say students were held against their will and improperly touched. The team's season had already been canceled, angering some parents. Gov. Chris Christie has called the alleged acts "extraordinarily disturbing."
