RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Close to $2 million is being spent by outside groups on new television advertisements in North Carolina's U.S. Senate race — one from anti-abortion forces and another from the nation's largest teachers union.
The National Education Association's Advocacy Fund said it's spending $1.2 million, with a television commercial airing Tuesday in all media markets and digital ads on places like Facebook. The campaign features a teacher blaming Republican candidate Thom Tillis for cuts to local schools. This is the group's second ad.
The Women Speak Out PAC says it began spending $620,000 on an ad running in around Raleigh critical of Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan's opposition to a bill last fall that would have banned later-term abortions. The ad is very similar to one the group ran in the summer.
