VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — High school students in Vermillion are constructing a housing unit that they say could eventually be located anywhere from the Arctic Circle to the Gulf Coast.
The Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan (http://bit.ly/1s2B6is ) reports the school district has partnered on the construction project with a manufacturer of modular buildings.
Mark Pier is the district's career and technical education instructor. Pier says the students are developing a module that the manufacturer could put together in "man camps" in oil fields in Alaska, Oklahoma and Texas.
A structure behind the high school will serve as the module construction site.
The newspaper reports a state grant is covering construction costs for the worksite building.
