LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada inmate serving two life sentences in the 1989 killing of a California real estate agent has died in prison. Nevada prison officials say 67-year-old John Colwell died of a chronic medical condition yesterday in High Desert State Prison. Colwell was convicted of kidnapping Modesto real estate agent Dorothy Greene while she showed a vacant house, then shooting her in the head and dumping her body in Lake Tahoe.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson says he's interested in building a casino in the northern New Jersey Meadowlands if the state allows the expansion of gambling beyond Atlantic City. Speaking at a casino industry forum in Las Vegas yesterday, the chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation called the East Rutherford site "a very attractive place" for a casino. New Jersey is considering repealing its ban on casinos anywhere but in Atlantic City.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada prison investigator told a judge today that a self-described pimp who admits bribing a guard to obtain cellphones behind bars was plotting an escape before his death penalty trial in a fatal Las Vegas Strip shooting and fiery crash. Ammar Harris says he'll plead guilty to a bribery charge. He faces trial next July in the 2013 shooting and crash that killed three.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada tourism officials are planning a three-day festival next fall to celebrate and promote the city as the birthplace of what became modern blue jeans. Riveted denim jeans first were created by Reno tailor Jacob Davis in a downtown shop in 1871. Tourism officials say the "Blue Genes Jam" next Oct. 2-4 will celebrate the iconic trousers' impact on popular culture.
