SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A lawyer for a Utah man accused of killing his wife says she likely shot herself accidently after grabbing her gun while still dripping wet from a shower. Defense attorney Ronald Yengich argues Heidy Truman probably thought she heard an intruder in their Orem home. He says Conrad Truman called his wife's cellphone just before her death, showing he wasn't close enough to kill her. Conrad Truman's trial began yesterday with prosecutors saying he killed Heidy Truman for nearly $1 million of insurance money.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Democrat Charles Stormont says the legal defense of "hot button" polygamy and gay marriage laws by Attorney General Sean Reyes is a waste of money. Stormont made the criticism last night in Provo during the first debate of this year's attorney general race. Reyes says the attorney general can't pick and choose which laws to defend. Reyes, a Republican, has served as the state's top lawman after former Attorney General John Swallow resigned last year.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Six police dogs in West Valley City are getting new bulletproof vests after an Internet campaign raised more than $335,000 for the gear. Police say the money was collected in $10 contributions through Groupon Grassroots, a philanthropic version of the discount website Groupon.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton will likely miss the rest of the season after injuring his surgically repaired left knee. Keeton missed most of last season after tearing two knee ligaments in a game against BYU. Keeton was injured in a victory over Wake Forest on Sept. 13 and missed the Aggies' loss to Arkansas State a week later. Utah State plays at No. 18 BYU tomorrow night.
