BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Montana State University has hired a livestock judging coach who will manage a team designed to give students hands-on experience in the beef industry.
Hanna DelCurto will coach the 15-member livestock judging team, which plans to travel to 10 competitions this year.
In a livestock judging competition, students examine cattle, sheep or pigs and determine their marketability value. Students then must defend their assessment to judges.
DelCurto also will teach a livestock evaluation class and oversee the Steer-a-Year program. The program accepts steers from private producers, uses them for educational purposes and sells them at the end of the school year to raise money for the livestock judging program.
DelCurto was a member of the Kansas State livestock judging team and recently completed her master's degree in animal science at Texas A&M.
