PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah doctor convicted of murder in his wife's death and recently sentenced to 17 years to life in prison had decided to appeal.
Martin MacNeill's attorney, Randy Spencer, filed a notice Monday that he will challenge the conviction to the Utah Court of Appeals.
The 58-year-old MacNeill was sentenced on Sept. 19 at a hearing in which his daughter called him a monster. A jury found him guilty last year following a three-week trial.
The long-awaited sentence came seven years after prosecutors say MacNeill knocked out his wife with drugs prescribed following cosmetic surgery and left her to die in a bathtub so he could begin a new life with his mistress.
MacNeill has maintained his innocence throughout the process.
