NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State University is questioning whether it actually hit its enrollment "sweet spot" this year.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (http://bit.ly/1mGLBr3 ) reports ISU previously said it was pleased with its fall enrollment of 20,615 students, including the school's largest freshmen class since 1989.
During a review of the fiscal year 2015 budget, ISU board member Bob Churney suggested that tuition revenue could be increased by aiming to enroll about 1,000 more students. He said the expansion would depend on variables such as adequate student housing and the school's mission to keep classes at a 19:1 student-faculty ratio.
Tuition revenue makes up more than 42 percent of ISU's projected operating revenue in the proposed budget for fiscal year 2015. The board is set to vote on the budget on Oct. 24.
