SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An 18-year-old man is dead after a shooting that followed a house party in Salt Lake City. Police say Cesar Gaxiola was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head early yesterday and died later in the day. Police say they've interviewed the suspected shooter, but added that there are "mitigating circumstances" and the gunman has not been arrested.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former FBI agent is slated to go on trial in Salt Lake City today on charges that he tried to thwart an investigation into military contract fraud by making a suspect look like a valuable counterintelligence source. Prosecutors say retired agent Robert Lustyik Jr. agreed to derail a Utah-based investigation into a company started by former soldiers. They were accused of using insider information to win $54 million worth of inflated contracts to supply Afghan troops.
SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) — Police say a preliminary autopsy has ruled out violent assault in the deaths of five Utah County family members, including three children. Police said yesterday there was no evidence of stabbing or gunshot wounds or other visible injuries to the five found dead Saturday night in their home in Springville.
PRICE, Utah (AP) — Two people have been charged with manslaughter in the 2013 death of a Price man who overdosed on heroin. Jason Jaimez and Shelbi Mower are charged in the death of Trevor Whiteside. The Deseret News reports it's the second time this month Carbon County prosecutors have filed a manslaughter charge against someone for providing drugs to a person who died.
