COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Striking teachers are back on the picket lines after weekend negotiations with a mediator failed to yield any progress on a new contract.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/10cUcI2 ) reports that the proposal presented by the Reynoldsburg school board to the teachers' union during mediation Sunday night was unchanged from the previous proposal that teachers overwhelmingly rejected weeks ago.
Superintendent Tina Thomas-Manning said both sides remain apart on numerous issues. She reiterated that the board's final offer is fair and reflects the economic realities of the school district. The sticky issues include class sizes and merit-based raises.
About 360 union members are striking for the seventh day Monday in the district of about 7,000 students just east of Columbus.
