NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — North Las Vegas might have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in back pay and legal costs to a police officer fired in 2007 after a complaint about a parking ticket. Attorney Adam Levine tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal he thinks the final award to Timothy Frabbiele could be $500,000. The board ruled Thursday that the city violated labor practices by blocking Frabbiele from contesting his firing.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says the U.S. must continue to maintain a presence in Afghanistan to ensure security. Sandoval, one of four U.S. governors who made a weekend visit to Afghanistan, said yesterday it's important for the U.S. to play an advisory role after the withdrawal of foreign combat troops by the end of the year.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas marijuana grow operation was busted after police said its operator led them to it through his YouTube videos. Police say 35-year-old Jason Pelletier was taken into custody Friday after an anonymous tipster notified them about the videos. The videos walk viewers through an area filled with what appears to be marijuana plants.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal judge will not block the release of oil and gas leases in Nevada that critics say will be used for hydraulic fracturing that could cause more environmental damage than the Bureau of Land Management admits. U.S. District Judge Miranda Du ruled she has no authority to grant opponents' request for an emergency order to prevent the BLM from issuing the leases.
