CHICAGO (AP) — More than 600 flights have been canceled today at Chicago's two international airports, a day after a fire at a suburban control center forced the cancellation of more than 2,000 flights. There are long lines at O'Hare airport, where many stranded travelers spent the night on cots. At Midway airport, Southwest Airlines is hoping to resume a full flight schedule today after having to cancel all of its flights there yesterday. Authorities say the fire was deliberately set by a contract employee at the control center in Aurora.

BEIRUT (AP) — A spokesman for U.S. Central Command says he can't confirm reports that today's coalition airstrikes in Syria have taken out some grain silos. Max Blumenfeld says the U.S. doesn't target food or anything that can be used by the civilian population. Activists say the silos were struck along with other targets in eastern Syria. Activists and a Kurdish official say warplanes also struck Islamic State fighters in a town near the Turkish border for the first time.

TOKYO (AP) — Rescuers in Japan plan to wait until daybreak tomorrow to try to reach at least 40 injured climbers stranded by an erupting volcano. Seven other people are missing on the mountain. Police, fire and military rescue workers say the ash in the air is making it too dangerous to use helicopters.

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — A mountaineering official says a Japanese climber has become the first casualty of Nepal's autumn climbing season. An official says the man was attempting to scale the world's eighth-highest peak when he slipped and was killed.

VENICE, Italy (AP) — George Clooney has been spotted relaxing with friends in Venice, ahead of his wedding to Amal Alamuddin (AH'-muhl ah-luh-muh-DEEN'). Clooney had a late-morning coffee with Cindy Crawford and her husband on a luxury hotel terrace as a flotilla of photographers hovered nearby in boats. The 53-year-old actor and the 36-year-old human rights lawyer haven't divulged details of the celebrations. Media have speculated that the couple will have one ceremony today and a civil ceremony on Monday.
