LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Phoenix woman accused of throwing a shoe at Hillary Clinton during a speech in Las Vegas has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespassing. Alison Ernst pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of violence against a person in a restricted building. The U.S. Attorney's office says Ernst is due to stand trial Oct. 29 on that charge. Clinton was speaking on stage to a recycling conference at the Mandalay Bay resort when Ernst threw a soccer shoe past her. Clinton ducked and wasn't hit.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Nevada state prison guard could get five years behind bars after pleading guilty to smuggling contraband to Las Vegas Strip shooting and crash defendant Ammar Harris. Derland Blake of North Las Vegas was one of six people accused of conspiring to smuggle cellphones, food, drugs and vodka to Harris, who's serving 16 years to life for his conviction in a 2010 sex attack and robbery case. Harris' death penalty trial is expected next year in the Strip shooting and crash that left three people dead in 2013.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The Canadian-based owner of a gold mine in northern Nevada has agreed to pay a $182,000 civil penalty for failing to correctly report toxic chemical releases to federal environmental regulators. The EPA says Veris Gold failed to properly report the chemical releases and other waste management activities at its Jerritt Canyon mine in Elko County.
FERNLEY, Nev. (AP) — Federal officials are giving more than $700,000 to expand the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. The money will help the cemetery develop about three more acres and will cover the cost of road construction, landscaping and columbaria for holding cremated remains.
