SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Vail Resorts Inc. is planning to begin building lifts next summer to connect Canyons Resort and its newest acquisition, Park City Mountain Resort. Vail purchased Park City Mountain Resort earlier this month for $182.5 million from Powdr Corp. It resolved a legal battle between two ski titans and paved the way for the creation of what could be the country's largest resort.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert says the state has launched a criminal probe and two other misconduct investigations into a medical waste burning facility. The governor's office says the state Environmental Quality department is also investigating whether Stericycle violated emissions permits. The Utah Labor Commission is also investigating possible worker safety violations. Messages left with Illinois-based Stericycle were not immediately returned yesterday.
HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — A woman accused of stabbing a man at a forest gathering focused on peace and nonviolence has been ordered to nearly a year behind bars. The Salt Lake Tribune reports 33-year-old Leilani Novak-Garcia had pleaded no contest last month to an aggravated assault charge. An attempted murder charge against her was dropped.
WOODLAND, Utah (AP) — Utah authorities say a motorcyclist who died after driving on the wrong side of the road was a 61-year-old man from Cheshire, England. Utah Highway Patrol said David Morgan died in a crash with a truck that happened a little after noon Wednesday east of Woodland in Summit County. The truck driver was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition.
