9 cats die in veterinary center fire

JACKSON, Mo. (AP) — Nine cats are dead following a fire at a southeast Missouri veterinary clinic.

The Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/1rn6eIR ) reports that the fire broke out early Wednesday at Heartland Veterinary Care in Jackson. Assistant Fire Chief Randy Davis says the cats died of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Davis says the cats were the only animals in the building.
