MIDDLETON, Idaho (AP) — The southwest Idaho city of Middleton has decided to end its contract with the Canyon County Sheriff's Office and create a city police department. Middleton Mayor Darion Taylor tells the Idaho Statesman that the city of 6,000 can save more than $200,000 over four years and says that residents will remain safe.
RUPERT, Idaho (AP) — A south-central Idaho man has died in an explosion at a dairy. Authorities tell The Times-News the explosion occurred Monday as Dayne Hansen of Rupert did welding work on a trailer. Minidoka County Sheriff Eric Snarr says the explosion damaged the shop and other equipment.
HARRISON, Idaho (AP) — A small public high school at the south end of Lake Coeur d'Alene is among the best performers in the SAT college entrance exams in Idaho this year. The Spokesman-Review reports that of the Idaho schools that had 10 or more juniors tackle the SAT in mid-April, Kootenai High School had the largest year-over-year improvement.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- USA Football has chosen former Boise State and Colorado coach Dan Hawkins to lead the senior national team during the American football world championships to be played in Sweden in July. Hawkins was 53-11 at Boise State from 2001-05, winning four consecutive Western Athletic Conference titles. He is currently a college football analyst for ESPN and SiriusXM satellite radio.
