RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for dense smoke north of Reno and in the Lake Tahoe area due to a large wildfire in California. The smoke forced cancellation yesterday of the annual Ironman triathlons at Lake Tahoe, and the closure of some California schools west of Tahoe today.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Retired boxer Mike Tyson came to the rescue of an injured motorcyclist after a crash on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas last week. The attorney for 29-year-old Ryan Chesley says his client was lying on the ground when he looked up and saw Tyson, who was yelling at people not to touch Chesley. Tyson's assistant acknowledges that he got a handwritten thank-you note and a fruit basket from Chelsey.

MOAPA, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas-area health officials are warning of the threat of mosquitoes and West Nile virus after flooding two weeks ago. Health and emergency management officials are holding community meetings today in Moapa and Overton. The mosquitoes can breed in standing water and some have been found infected with the West Nile virus.

HIKO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a driver of Porsche died after a rollover crash near the finish line of a high-speed, open-highway race through rural Nevada. Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee says the crash happened during the Silver State Classic Challenge, which takes place on State Route 318. The driver was identified as Phillip Bowser.
