NEW YORK (AP) — The Dow Jones industrial average is closing at a record high after the Federal Reserve maintained its stance on record-low interest rates. The Dow rose nearly 25 points, or 0.2 percent, to close at 17,156 today — its 16th record high this year. The S&P 500 edged up 2 ½ points, or 0.1 percent, to finish at 2,001. The Nasdaq rose nine points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,562.
NEW YORK (AP) — The price of oil is down. It fell after the Energy Department reported an unexpected increase in U.S. oil supplies. Benchmark U.S. crude fell 46 cents to $94.42 a barrel today New York. Brent crude, a benchmark for international oils imported by many U.S. refineries, dropped 8 cents to $98.87 a barrel in London.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos is planning to build a rocket engine that would eventually replace the Russian mainstay used in many American unmanned launches. United Launch Alliance, a collaboration of two aerospace giants, says it'll pay Bezos' Blue Origin space firm to develop new rocket engines. In about four years, the launch alliance hopes to start using the new engines in Delta and Atlas rockets.
NEW YORK (AP) — A companion guide to Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" promises not only some background on one of the year's most anticipated movies but also some basic science. Publisher W.W. Norton and Company says Kip Thorne's "The Science of Interstellar" will coincide with the November release of the philosophical science fiction thriller that stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal health experts say there is little evidence that testosterone-boosting drugs are effective for treating common signs of aging and large studies are needed to support their continued use in millions of American men. A panel of Food and Drug Administration advisers is recommending new prescribing language on blockbuster testosterone treatments.
