BLOOMING GROVE, Pa. (AP) — State police say they're searching for a suspect who shot and killed one trooper and wounded another at a barracks in northeastern Pennsylvania, about 35 miles east of Scranton. Roads were closed, nearby Lackawanna County dispatched its SWAT team, and helicopters were seen flying over the area. Road closings include parts of Interstate 84.

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — Internal investigations and an outside review will be used to look at how a convicted killer of three Ohio high school students managed to escape from prison, along with two other inmates. There's also a criminal probe ongoing. All three are back in custody and they've been moved to a more secure facility.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says the mistakes of the past must be avoided as he makes a distinction between the battle to blunt Islamic State militants and the long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In his weekly media message, Obama says more nations are signing up to oppose the extremists. For the Republicans, GOP candidate Andy Tobin says he's running for a House seat because his state is under attack from the federal government.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A precautionary evacuation is in force in Southern California's Cleveland National Forest where a wildfire is burning its way through a canyon. People in about 30 homes were ordered to leave, though officials say no homes are directly threatened yet.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's prime minister says he has ordered the army to stop shelling populated areas held by the Islamic State group. During a conference held in Baghdad, Haider al-Abadi says the decision aims to prevent the targeting of "innocent victims," but he also vows to continue military operations against the al-Qaida breakaway group that has seized large territories in the country's north and west.
