THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — The Lafourche Parish School Board has approved it 2014-15 budget that calls for spending $170 million, up $4 million from last year.

School spokesman Floyd Benoit tells The Daily Comet (http://bit.ly/1rZlduD) board members unanimously approved the budget Wednesday night in front of a nearly empty board room.

The district faces an increased reliance on local revenues as state and federal dollars have decreased.

Local taxes accounted for 48 percent of the 2013-14 district income, a 9 percent increase over the last decade. Meanwhile, state revenue has decreased by 9 percent over the last decade, down to 40 percent of district income.
