SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state officials are delving out $2 million in grants to help 15 educational and economic development programs around the state.
The grants include $200,000 to the University of Utah for stem cell research. The university will use the funds for a program that focuses on stem cell research for leukemia, retinitis, heart disease, ALS and arthritis.
Other large grants went to Dixie Applied Technology College for a manufacturing program; Box Elder County for a drone test center; and the University of Utah and Salt Lake County for a church and state business incubator.
The grants from a program run jointly through the state Department of Workforce Services, the Governor's Office of Economic Development and the Utah System of Higher Education.
